Highlight Your Local Nature with this DIY Video Project

I love gawking at dramatic natural features in faraway places. There is something very special about sampling the variety of all that our dynamic Earth has to offer.

Sand dunes, basalt columns, limestone caves, wildflower hills, coral sands, frozen waterfalls, rainforest canopies… heck yes. Spectacular.

While I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to visit new areas, there is something equally as special about basking in the glory of our local ecosystem. After all, this is the nature we have consistent access to.

What is here? Which trees are growing nearby? What kinds of rocks can be found? Who are the pollinators? And… How do we interact with it all on a daily basis?

Create a video project to highlight your nearby nature.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Grab the highest quality video-recording device you have access to. Smartphones are a great option.
  2. Walk around your neighborhood or local natural areas.
  3. Capture a variety of video shots of the nature you notice.
  4. String together the clips with any video-editing software you have access to.
  5. (Optional) Overlay music or audio recording over the video to help inspire awe.
  6. Share the video with others, either in private or by uploading to a video or social media platform. Simple title suggestion: Nature of (Place)

The goal?

For the video creator (and watchers) to grow their appreciation of the natural world around them.

The beauty of this project is in its simplicity. You can easily create a video for your local area, or for any other natural space you plan to visit.

If you do happen to create and upload an “Out Here: Nature of ___” video, please send the link to natrecblog@gmail.com or tag us on IG @nature.reconnect.

Happy Creating!
